Zozobra has burned the prayers, thoughts have been burned with him. But did you know that Zozobra has been burning since 1924? That it was created as an art piece by William Howard. If you didn’t know Zozobra isn’t a Pagan symbol, or Native American, or even Spanish. This was created by an artist and was burnt as an art piece. Can you imagine O’Keefe hanging out and watching Zozobra burning? Hearing him scream and people cheering as he dies. Then take his ashes and put it in bottles or put it on their foreheads like he is Jesus himself. I hate Zozobra honestly, I really do and don’t enjoy watching him burn. Because of what they have made him into. Instead of saying ZOZOBRA is an art piece and was created as an art piece. All the hotels’ BNBs in this town have a jar or a bowl setup. Where you leave your thoughts, prayers, and sadness and they burn it with Zozobra. On August 29th to celebrate the end of the year. Which cracks me up and each year there is a new theme this year was Steampunk. Why don’t we really call it what it is. It’s art and noting more and need to stop selling it as a Pagan or church ritual cause it’s NOT. Plus, another reason I dislike Zozobra is that people get drunk, get violent and someone always ends up either in the ER or the morgue. So, that is my thoughts on Zozobra :)) more you know LOL!!!
I also wanted to mention that it was created by the Canyon Road artists of the time. He was burnt in protest of the times of what was happening around the world and in New Mexico. The 20s everything was changing from the past to the new and they needed an outlet and there came the idea of ZOZOBRA.
